On Saturday May 2, a convoy of three lorries from Plan International rolled into the Baluwapati area of Kavrepalanchok District, bringing the first wave of emergency shelter kits and seven daysâ worth of food supplies for 700 families. Arrangements were being made to meet the needs of the 600 remaining families as soon as possible.
Kavrepalanchok District is among the most severely affected areas in Nepal. Baluwapatiâs Community leaders estimate that 95% of the areaâs 1,300 houses have been destroyed.
Plan International has launched a comprehensive emergency response plan in Nepal, including in Kavrepalanchok District. Plan is prioritising the emergency provision of temporary shelter supplies and food kits including rice, beans, oil and salt for a family of 10 for up to a week.
